The Assessment and Management of Chronic
Oedema in the Community
Course code: CCO101
This training is aimed at those who are working in the community setting who are
directly involved in the assessment and management of patients with Lower Limb
Chronic oedema. This course is completed over 2 full days or 4 half days, which do
not have to run consecutively. This CPD accredited course will enhance your
theoretical knowledge and practical skills in all aspects required to manage chronic
oedema in the community setting. The course will comprise of a total of 14 hours
face to face training. Teaching includes a variety of presentations, case studies
and self-directed study.
Target Audience
Nurses, G.P’s and members of allied healthcare including Nursing assistants,
physiotherapists, occupational therapists or any member of staff with an interest in
managing Chronic Oedema.
Learning Outcomes
Increase knowledge of the causes of chronic oedema via revision of
Lymphatics and vascular systems and their symbiotic roles including
incidence of chronic oedema
Increase clinician confidence to accurately diagnose and ‘manage’ the
underlying cause’ of Oedema
Increase knowledge of available management options supported with latest
research
Understand the importance of good skin care and the possible implications of
poor skin care utilising Formulary products
Gain confidence to differentiate between Red Legs, Cellulitis and best
practice guidelines for management and prevention of future episodes of
Cellulitis
Understand the importance of simple exercise to educate
patients/family/carers why exercise is critical for improved quality of life
and symptom management: Self-directed patient care.
Revise and discuss the theories of compression therapy
Demonstrate knowledge and skills in the application of short stretch
bandaging, compression garments and Velcro wrapping devices
Know when and how to refer to specialist services: Lymphoedema, Vascular,
Dermatology
CPD Hours
Attendees will be directed to 2 hours worth of pre-course reading and 1 hour of
written reflection on the holistic assessment of the patient with chronic oedema.
There is then 12 hours of face to face training spread across the course, as well as
a further 2 hours reading and reflecting on compression articles.
Lymphscanner in clinical practice

This module is designed to introduce you to the Lymphscanner and inform you of recent research regarding the use of the LymphScanner in clinical practice.

This CPD certified training module is focused on the application of lymphoedema compression bandaging during the treatment phase of chronic oedema and lymphoedema management.

Compression Therapy and Kinesiology Taping
for Midline Oedema
Course code: CMP102
Aimed at those in advanced practice and management of Lymphoedema/Chronic oedema who
have access to specialist/ bespoke compression therapy as well as products available
via drug tariff.
This is day dedicated to the teaching practice on the use of compression garments in
advanced practice of lymphoedema. Taught content involves a 6 hour study day
focussing on the selection, measuring and fitting of compression garments used in
specialist management such as head and neck, truncal and obesity related oedema as
well as an overview of the use the Lymph Flow Advance and Photobiomodulation.
Target Audience
Lymphoedema specialists, those who are familiar with the use of circular and flat
knit garments but require skills in the use of specialist bespoke compression or
those requiring a refresh on specialist compression therapy and kinesiology taping
for midline lymphoedema.
Learning Outcomes
Explain the rationale for the choice of fabric and compression therapy
selection.
Demonstrate the correct measuring for “made to order”off the shelf and
made-to-measure ETO compression garments
Demonstrate ability to apply measuring guidelines to practice and to order
the
correct garments.
Promote safe practice in the use of the ETO range of compression therapy.
Promote safe practice in the application of kinesiology taping for the
midline, including knowledge of indications, contra indications and methods
of application.
CPD Hours
There is pre course reading and reflective case studies are encouraged to
demonstrate evidence for CPD. In total, if completed this will give the delegate 10
hours of CPD.
Management of Arm, Breast and Truncal
Oedema
Course code: MNG102
This is a 6 hour training day that focuses on the assessment and management of arm
and truncal oedema. It brings together sections from other training days such as the
use of the TDC in the assessment of breast and truncal oedema.
Target Audience
Breast Care team members, and Lymphoedema specialists.
Learning Outcomes
Gain understanding and skills in how to complete a full holistic assessment
of the patient with arm and truncal lymphoedema
Explain the rationale for the choice of fabric and compression therapy
selection.

There is pre course reading and reflection and a competency-based assessment that
the delegate can complete within 3 months of attending the course. In total, if
completed this will give the delegate 12 hours of CPD.

This CPD accredited course is designed to increase understanding of the components involved in
lymphoedema in advanced disease and what treatment options are available.
Target Audience

To increase understanding of the components involved in lymphoedema in advanced disease
To appreciate the need for a thorough assessment, in order to facilitate decision making regarding management options
To be aware of risk factors and “red flags” for palliative lymphoedema patients and to understand how to reduce this risk
To appreciate when it may be necessary to adapt usual treatments, ensuring these are available and appropriate in the palliative setting
To know what options for compression are available from Haddenham and specifically how these may be used in palliative care
To understand the psychosocial implications of lymphoedema in palliative care, ensuring that the main aims of treatment focus on the goals described by the patient
